Spotlight on Texas - Denton!

Denton is a wonderful town located north of DFW.  I commuted to school at Texas Woman's University in Denton.  After I graduated, I moved up to Denton, and now my husband and I call Denton our home.

Denton has such a vast amount of activities that anyone of any age or walk of life can find entertainment and enjoyment.  The following are just a few that my husband and I enjoy:

1.  Denton Community Theater--We love going to the theater, but we don't like the prices or the drive to the ones downtown.  This place is right off the square and is an intimate setting to enjoy some drama.  If you live in Denton or ever stop by you need to check it out!

2.  Free Community Events--Denton is a large city, but it doesn't feel like it.  They offer so many events throughout the year.  We have enjoy the wassail-tasting contest at Christmas time, Cinco de Mayo festival, 4th of July Parade, movies in the park, Air Show, and the Arts and Jazz festival.  It is a rare week when there is not something going on in Denton.  Check out their webpage.
We love that Denton is a college town, too!  Go Mean Green!
3.  Unique Food and Beverage Places to go check out:
Jupiter House on the Square--The vibe is so laid back and chill.  Their coffee drinks are delicious.  Plus, it is right on the square, so you can walk around, lounge on the grass by the Courthouse, or check out the old opera house turned bookstore.
Abbey Inn on the Square--Try the Aesthetic Burger.  It is legit!

For all the partakers of alcohol,
Oak Street Draft House and Cocktail Parlor--This place has quite the selection of beer, I hear.  (I'm not a beer drinker, but I have seen their menu, and it is long!)  What I love about this place is the backyard area.  It is the huge space with picnic tables and chair.  You can just come and relax.  The bar area is in an old house, which is so cool for those who like historic things like me.

Pascal's on the square--Anyone watch Mad Men??? This is so that!  Need I say more?  There is even a secret door.  You kinda gotta know where you are going.

I could go on and on about the things to do, people to meet, or places to go in Denton!  Hopefully, one of these above-mentioned options strikes your fancy, and when you are nearby you will go check it out!

Thanks for reading,

DFW Blogger Event!

Hey ladies!! I wanted to share with you a fun event that is coming up in September (9/8/12 to be exact) for all DFW Bloggers. Myself and Sarah @ City Girl Gone Country and Julie @A Beautiful Day are hosting a fun blogger's night at A Piece of Work in Fort Worth.

I recently participated in an alumni event at A Piece of Workand had a blast! Y'all I have no artistic painting experience what-so-ever, but managed to paint a masterpiece! The coolest part is that they instruct each brush stroke. No lie! This is how everyone can paint their own masterpiece!! So do not feel intimidated! {Check out my experience here.} Plus...we will be serving light apps and wine!!

What?? Did I just say wine?? Why yes, I most certainly did! :) This wonderful studio is BYOB, so if you're not into wine, bring your own adult beverage of choice. :) The cost for this fun night is $40. What's included? Paint, canvas, instructor for the evening, wine, light apps, aprons for everyone, sodas, tea, hot chocolate, and bottled water.

At the end of the evening, you will be able to take home your beautiful masterpiece. :)

Here is my beautiful masterpiece!

Click this link to sign up (you will need to join the Texas Bloggers Facebook Group first...if you aren't a member yet...before clicking through to the event info). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. :)

Spotlight on Texas - Austin!

I'm a born and raised Texas girl with the extent of that year and a half on the West Coast. I came back and that's what counts.
We call Austin home now. We've been here for 2 years and can't think of a better place to be. It's the best of everything, and it's Texas of course! Here are all the reasons that I think you should move visit Austin.
Austin
#1 Zilker Park's Barton Springs:
This is Hubs favorite place. No kidding the man swims daily come rain or shine. The Springs are beautiful, natural spring fed swimming area that remains 68 degrees year round. It is definitely a must do when you are in town.

#2 Jo's Coffee
With their iconic "I love you so much" graffiti and a nice cup of Jo. This is a great place to sit and people watch and there are always fun people to watch along the South Congress.

#3 Bat Watching: Congress Street Bridge
We have yet to make it out to the bridge at just the right time. Nightly from April to October the bats fly out at dusk and are quite a sight.

#4 Homeslice Pizza: South CongressAfter trying this our first week in town on a friend recommendation, it has continued to be a weekly tradition for the past 2 years. They have the most amazing pizza and subs. There is always an awesome mix of music playing, booths are great for large groups, or enjoy a seat at the counter and watch you pizza made. Kids get a plate of pizza dough to play with while mom and dad can enjoy a glass of wine or a cold one.

Make sure that while you are here you stop by our awesome mural  and take you souvenir post card photos.
